FDOT outlines tentative five‑year work program; programs $200 million across region

The Florida Department of Transportation District 7 presented the tentative five‑year work program for fiscal years 2027–2031 to the Hernando–Citrus MPO on Nov. 6, noting allocations for planning, design, right‑of‑way and construction activities across the region.
Suzanne Ziegler, FDOT District 7 government liaison manager, highlighted several local items: a US‑41 construction segment was deferred from FY2027 to FY2028 (a delay she described as "literally a six‑month delay"); right‑of‑way funding was added for the County Line Road project; construction for a State Road 200 bridge replacement was added to FY2031; and design funding was included for sidewalk gap projects on state road systems. Ziegler also noted a resurfacing project for State Road 50 from west of Buck Hope Road to west of Jefferson Street was added in FY2027 to address failing pavement ahead of a larger capacity job.
Ziegler said public comment had been solicited online (comments due Nov. 3) and that objection deadlines for affected parties were scheduled in the coming weeks. She told the board the tentative program will move to the governor and, after signing and adoption, be included in the state budget. FDOT reported roughly $200,000,000 was programmed in the region’s work program over the five‑year timeframe.
MPO members raised questions on project sequencing, bike‑ped and safety project accounting, and coordination with local LRTPs. FDOT said it uses traffic modeling, LRTPs and other data sources to identify and prioritize needs and that the district will circulate draft materials to MPO staff for comment.
