FDOT briefs Hernando–Citrus MPO on SIS 2050 multimodal unfunded needs plan

The Florida Department of Transportation District 7 presented an informational overview of the Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) 2050 multimodal unfunded needs plan to the Hernando–Citrus MPO on Nov. 6.

FDOT said the SIS 2050 multimodal unfunded needs plan documents long‑term transportation needs for SIS‑eligible facilities across modes — including roadway, rail, freight, aviation and transit — and compiles input from MPOs, TPOs, FDOT districts and regional partners. The district emphasized the plan is unconstrained by current funding and that listing a project as a need does not guarantee later funding or endorsement.

FDOT described an update process that spans roughly 18 months, including review, mapping and modeling steps, stakeholder review of a draft plan and final adoption by the FDOT executive board. MPO members asked how a potential federal government shutdown might affect funding; FDOT staff responded that the SIS is administered at the state level and said they did not expect the shutdown to change the plan process but that funding availability remains subject to appropriation.

FDOT said the district expects to circulate draft maps and tables to MPO staff and to present the draft to the MPO for comment when available.
