Coronado Theater leader thanks county for support, highlights student programs

Beth Howard, newly retired executive director of Friends of the Coronado, addressed the Winnebago County Board during public comment on Nov. 13 to thank the board for support that helped restore and expand the theater's student and community outreach after the COVID shutdown.
Howard said she participated in the Coronado’s 2001 restoration and later served as a board member and executive director. She credited board leadership and specific board members for special funding and advocacy that helped the theater reach regional schools. "Thank you for believing in the Coronado and that it belongs to everybody, that it stands as a symbol of civic pride," Howard said. She told the board that when the theater reopened, programs expanded to include regional schools (named: Pecatonica, Winnebago and Kinnickinnic) and that a touring show brought roughly 8,000 children across multiple performances.
Howard named Chairman Chiarelli, board member Kevin McCarthy (noting his role on the RAVE board) and Angela Fellers for support and funding in 2022. The board thanked Howard for her years of service to the Coronado and for her remarks.
