Summary
Supervisors approved an EMS wage increase tied to paramedic certification and multiple part-time EMT hires to fill vacancies; board members noted ongoing recruitment challenges and clarified pay for special events and part-time roles.
The Board of Supervisors approved a series of EMS personnel resolutions during the special session. Unidentified Speaker 1 introduced a resolution to increase compensation for C. Hartley after attaining paramedic certification, effective Sept. 23, 2025; the measure passed by voice vote.
The board then approved hiring S. Thomas and two additional part-time EMTs effective Sept. 30 to fill vacancies on the EMS roster. During discussion staff clarified that the $16-per-hour rate applies to part-time EMTs and that special-event pay is set by contract. "The $16 an hour is the EMT part time EMT pay," Unidentified Speaker 3 said while explaining special-event compensation arrangements.
Supervisors remarked the department has multiple open positions and an interview for a paramedic was scheduled; no changes to pay scales beyond the Hartley increase were made at the meeting. All EMS resolutions were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
