Council approves change order to replace fireproofing at Right Point facility

Riverside City Council approved a change order Monday for remediation work at the Right Point facilities after contractor ESG discovered more fireproofing material had failed than initially estimated.
Staff said the contractor initially provided an estimate for repairs, but once crews began work they "walk the entire floor with a metal pole and they test it" to ensure new fireproofing would adhere to sound substrate. That testing revealed additional areas needing repair, and staff told council the additional work required several hundred extra personnel hours. "This change order is the balance of those costs, required to replace that fireproofing and make sure the building is up to code," staff said.
Council moved, seconded and approved the change order by voice vote; no roll-call tally was recorded in the transcript. Staff described the intent as ensuring the facility meets required fireproofing code; no dollar figure for the change order was read into the record during the meeting.
