Hancock County Commission approves audits, hires, fee changes and appointments

The commission voted to award the county’s fiscal 2025 audit services to the firm listed on the agenda as David Elhau CPAs after a motion and voice approval. It approved a revised floodplain fee schedule that removes the fee previously required for single-family home use; the commission described the change as a reduction in cost to county residents.
In personnel actions, the commission approved the hire of Brandon Slusarek as systems and network administrator for Hancock County 911 and county government, effective Nov. 17, 2025. During the hiring item there was brief confusion over the pronunciation of the new hire’s last name before the commission welcomed him. 911 staff expressed appreciation for the hire and noted his IT background.
The commission also appointed Timothy E. McFadden to the Northern Panhandle Community Criminal Justice Board; Commissioner Cali, who reported having interviewed McFadden, said, “I think he’ll be a great candidate for this position,” before the motion passed by voice vote.
Other approvals included deviation from the statutory executor fee for the estate of Beverly J. Walker, approval of vacation and personal-day payouts for animal shelter staff (amounts listed on the public agenda), various probates and estates approved as to form, and county bills and levy fund requisitions. The meeting record lists general county bills totaling $220,002.83 and BeeCard funds totaling $38,169.17.
