Elections office reports higher turnout in 2025 municipal races; candidate filing dates set

Elections Director Miss Seamster reported Nov. 18 that the 2025 municipal elections drew 4,285 ballots countywide: 661 early-voting ballots, 11 approved absentee ballots, 29 provisional ballots accepted (of 36), and 3,584 election-day ballots. The director said these figures represent roughly a 38% increase in participation since 2023.
Staff also provided a cost breakdown that will be divided among the six municipalities served by the county elections office: the cities of Eden and Reidsville and the towns of Madison, Mayodan, Stoneville and Wentworth. Five municipalities will receive invoices within the week; Eden's invoice will be delayed pending resolution of an election protest that staff said was filed today.
Miss Seamster announced candidate filing for the 2026 primary will open at 12:00 p.m. (noon) Monday, Dec. 1, and run through 12:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 19. Regular weekday filing hours are 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; the office will open at noon on the first and last day and continue normal hours on intervening weekdays.
