Scurry County introduces temporary prosecutor Christy Burnett

Scurry County commissioners court on Oct. 1 introduced Christy Burnett, a prosecutor with more than three decades of experience in criminal cases from misdemeanors to capital murder. Speaker 2 told the court Burnett "started October 1" and will take a portion of the county’s criminal caseload to give existing staff time for other duties.
Burnett, whom Speaker 2 said they went to law school with, will try some pending cases and manage assigned files independently. "Happy to be here," Burnett said when the court welcomed her.
The court did not record a formal motion or vote associated with the introduction; officials said Burnett’s work is expected to run at least through 2026 and that they hope she will stay beyond that if possible. No compensation or contract terms were presented during the meeting.
Next steps: court members said they will introduce Burnett around the courthouse and confirm case assignments with the district attorney’s office.
