The mayor then presented a proclamation honoring Jeff Schullein for his long tenure as owner of Crown Ace Hardware — a family business founded in Newport Beach in 1948 and described in the meeting as having raised more than $1,000,000 for children's hospital causes. The Schullein family accepted the recognition and posed for photos.
Chris Dels, co‑chair of the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade and Ring of Lights, delivered a historical presentation about the parade’s origins in the early 1900s and promoted the 117th annual event, beginning Dec. 17 at Marina Park, which will include a holiday market, fireworks, drone shows and a multi‑night schedule.
These ceremonial items framed the council’s evening and provided event information and community recognition before policy discussions began.
