The Zoning Commission on a unanimous roll-call approved a modification without a hearing to American University’s approved campus plan to reconfigure interior space in the Sports Center Annex, adding roughly 2,955 square feet for student well‑being and clinical office space.
Office of Planning staff Michelle told the Commission the change is internal to the Sports Center building and "will allow them to provide some additional space for the students' well‑being and some clinical office space." She said the Office of Planning does not object to processing the request without a hearing and that ANC 3E filed a letter of support.
Chair Anthony Hood framed the request as "very modest," noting the applicant and OP had reviewed the application. After asking if any commissioner objected to proceeding without a hearing, Hood moved to approve the modification. Vice Chair Miller seconded the motion. Michelle conducted a roll-call vote; commissioners Hood, Miller, Stidham and Wright voted yes and the chair stated the vote was 4 to 0 to 1 to approve final action, the minus‑one being Commissioner Yima Moore not present and not voting.
The Commission recorded no additional conditions on the approval. The action finalizes the internal reconfiguration described in the application and allows the university to proceed under the amended campus‑plan approval.
