Shelter Cove library head Cynthia Eden on Tuesday proposed creating a small, volunteer-run food pantry called the Stone Soup Pantry in an unused storage room at the community clubhouse, asking the Resort Improvement District board to approve temporary use of the space and direct staff to work out access agreements.
Eden said volunteers have been collecting donations and distributing food since July, working with Food for People’s monthly deliveries. She said the effort grew from serving about 10 households to roughly 25 residents and now sometimes includes fresh produce and dairy, and the group also shares information about local services such as a mobile clinic.
