Staff said the airport‑compatible use area on the draft map was revised to mirror the county’s FAA‑approved overlay district because that overlay is unlikely to change. "The airport's grown ... it's supported by the county," staff said when explaining the rationale for aligning the map with the FAA overlay.
Staff also flagged an error: the SDI area appears labeled agricultural in the draft, and staff said that will be corrected before the public draft. Commissioners discussed whether an industrial designation should remain where a potential future highway interchange was sometimes proposed and whether INDOT’s timeline should influence current map choices.
Staff requested written comments on the future land use map by Dec. 1 and outlined the overall comprehensive plan schedule: draft comments due Dec. 5; a public draft expected Dec. 19; a staff presentation on Jan. 21; first‑round public‑draft comments due Feb. 1; and an anticipated public hearing in March to prepare a recommendation for county commissioners.
