RPC wins $380,000 to study climate vulnerabilities; council warned homeless-services funding could shrink

Urbana — The Regional Planning Commission has received $380,000 to study vulnerabilities in local infrastructure related to climate, council member Mary Ellis told the Urbana City Council on Monday.
"The RPC received $380,000 funding to look at vulnerabilities to our infrastructure and climate," Mary Ellis said during reports of special committees. She added that LIHEAP and Community Development Block Grant funding were "fully funded" based on recent congressional action.
Ellis also cautioned the council about changes to homeless-services funding. "The bad news is that homeless services funding is going to be changing, and that could potentially impact worst case scenario. We would go from being able to support 60 at risk chronically homeless down to 10," she said, adding that this outcome was not guaranteed.
Ellis presented the RPC funding and the homelessness concern as informational updates; the council did not take additional action on those items at the meeting.
The council adjourned with no further business.
