At the Oct. 16 meeting the Area Plan Commission received a staff report that the APC code enforcement officer has resigned and that a current part‑time permit clerk who has been working full time will be moved into that full‑time permanent clerk position.
Staff said those moves create an open part‑time clerk position and a separate vacancy for a code enforcement officer. The director asked how the commission wished to proceed on interview and hiring rules; he said he would like the commission to allow the chair to be involved in interviews.
Commissioner Dana Richmond moved that the commission allow its president, Mr. Adkins (referred to in roll call as Randy Atkins), to participate in the interview process for Area Plan Department hires. Frank Hicks seconded. The motion passed on a roll call in which all present commissioners voted yes.
Staff said final hiring approvals will return to the commission as required; the commission’s authorization applies only to participation in interviews and does not remove the commission’s responsibility to approve hires per APC rules.
