The Energy & Environment Committee heard a brief introduction and Q&A with Benny Tran, the mayor’s appointee to the Board of Water and Power Commissioners, and approved his appointment as a communication from the chair and member.
Tran described prior service on the Recreation and Parks Commission, experience with sustainability projects, and work at the Clinton Climate Initiative. He said he aims to help ensure "reliable, affordable, and sustainable water and power for all Angelenos," and emphasized equity, long-term infrastructure investment and the city’s goal of 100% renewable energy by 2035.
During questioning, Council member Padilla pressed Tran on how Rec & Parks experience might translate to DWP priorities, opportunities to use parks for solar or water-reclamation projects, and whether he supports increased recycled-water use; Tran said he would study technical issues more closely once on the board but supported exploring recycled water and infrastructure financing.
The clerk called the roll on the appointment and the item was recorded as approved as a communication from the chair and member. The committee moved on to other items.
