Council committee advances multiple Berkeley County zoning map amendments

Berkeley County's Land Use committee received a quarterly update on an incremental zoning ordinance rewrite and moved a batch of zoning map amendments forward.
Miss Simmons, the county planner on the project, said Weston & Sampson was retained to prepare targeted and incremental text amendments and has provided a first quarterly memo covering June 1 through Aug. 31. Simmons said Phase 2 deliverables include expanding allowances for accessory dwelling units, modernizing buffer-yard requirements, a conservation subdivision framework and other technical text amendments.
The committee then took up multiple zoning map amendment bills. First-reading and consideration items included bill 25-57 (Carl Washington on behalf of Lehia and Peggy M. Little, TMS 123-00-02-026), bill 25-47 (Tobias Jordan on behalf of Morris C. Jenkins and others), 25-52, 25-53 (Daniel Jagerman, ~2.22 acres on Spotted Owl Lane), 25-54 and others. Where applicants volunteered additional buffering or a 25-foot buffer and a 6-foot opaque privacy fence in a site plan, the county planner noted those voluntary concessions when members asked about fences and buffers.
Motions to advance or approve each bill were moved and carried by voice vote or placed for subsequent readings as required by procedure.
