Staff said the parcel has been used by the school district for decades and that the transfer would formalize ownership. The transfer documents include a reversionary clause stating the property would revert to city ownership if it were used for purposes other than school use. Staff told the council state law requires a two-thirds vote to transfer property to another government entity.
Councilor Hunter asked whether prior plans to convert nearby property to bus parking affected the parcel; staff replied the bus-parking parcel was a different lot south of the area shown and that the district has since built a new bus barn elsewhere. Councilor Nunnally moved to approve the resolution; the motion was seconded and the council voted unanimously in favor.
The resolution does not obligate city funds; it updates municipal property boundaries to reflect long-standing use by the school district. The city will proceed with documentation and boundary-line adjustments once the city manager executes the necessary instruments.
