Post Falls staff to research duck and chicken regulations; council asks for outside input

Council directed staff to study possible changes to the city's regulations for ducks and to consider whether the current limit on hens should be reviewed.
Bob Seal, Community Development Director, said current city practice treats ducks like livestock with an acre minimum to avoid livestock-style impacts. He noted other cities sometimes allow smaller numbers of ducks on smaller parcels and recommended research into local standards, public-health considerations and potential input from zoologists or animal specialists. "We will continue to look into the regulations that other cities have created and come up with a route that would work for the city of Post Falls," Seal said.
Council asked staff to return with options and stakeholder outreach in May.
