Beaumont approves CDBG allocations for FY 2026–27 to support children’s programs and pedestrian safety

Beaumont City Council approved award recommendations for the city’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocation for fiscal year 2026–27 during the Dec. 2 meeting and authorized the city manager to execute the necessary agreements with the County of Riverside.
Staff reported an estimated allocation of $147,680 from HUD via the Riverside County cooperative agreement; federal rules allow up to 15% of the allocation to fund nonprofit public-service activities. Staff said two nonprofit applications were received: Boys & Girls Club requested $50,000 to support its Camp Kids program that serves children during school breaks; Voices for Children requested $10,000 to fund advocacy supervisors for Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Staff recommended covering those nonprofit requests and directing remaining funds to a city pedestrian-safety project involving sidewalk installation and repairs.
Two in-person speakers—Nicole Boatger from Voices for Children and Megan Grisham, chief operating officer for the Boys & Girls Club—described program impacts and urged full or partial funding. Staff clarified the specific dollar amounts available for allocation and noted last year’s allocations were $10,000 for Voices for Children and the remainder for the Boys & Girls Club. On council motion and roll-call vote, the council approved the recommendations and authorized the city manager to execute the agreement with Riverside County in the amounts disclosed at the meeting.
