Commissioners table inmate food-service contract after request for review
Summary
The board on Sept. 2 discussed a proposed new inmate food services contract with the vendor that previously held the contract; several commissioners said they had not seen final contract language and asked for time to review notice and rate-change provisions, so the board voted to continue the item to the next meeting.

Troup County staff reviewed a proposed new contract for inmate food services with the same vendor that held prior agreements. Commissioners raised questions about contract language, the structure of rate changes (CPI vs. a vendor cap), automatic renewals and the notification process for future rate changes.
One commissioner said they had not seen the contract and asked that the item be continued to allow commissioners and the county attorney time to review the terms. Staff confirmed the prior contract had expired and that the vendor continued to operate under prior terms while a new agreement was prepared. The board voted to table the item and continue discussion at the next meeting to allow commissioners time to review the contract and consult with the attorney and staff.
No contract was executed at the Sept. 2 meeting; staff said they would provide the contract language and be available to answer commissioners' questions before the next vote.
