The Troup County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 2 to accept a $350,000 Land and Water Conservation Fund grant from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and to commit a $350,000 match from SPLOST 5 for a new playground at the Whitesville Road Soccer Complex.
County Manager Mosley told commissioners the total budget for the playground is $700,000. "The total budget, is $700,000, $350,000 in the federal grant, and the $350,000 matching dollars would come from SPLOST 5," Mosley said. He said staff had met with Georgia DNR to formalize the resolution and recommended the board adopt and certify the grant award.
The board voted to adopt the resolution and formally accept the LWCF award. Commissioners asked only procedural questions about fund availability; Mosley confirmed there are funds in the SPLOST 5 parks and recreation allocation to serve as the county match.
Approval commits grant and local match funding for the playground project; staff will proceed with the steps Mosley described to finalize the award and move forward with project implementation.
The board moved on to other business after approving the resolution; no further public comment was recorded on this item.
