Noel, filling in for Megan at The Colony Public Library, told the city council the library's summer reading challenge has 794 total participants and the library has recorded 1,460 attendees at summer events so far. "So far, we have 794 total participants in the program, and we've had 1,460 attendees to our summer events so far," Noel said.
Noel said the challenge runs through Aug. 3 and is open to children, teens and adults. Weekly programs include story time on Tuesday mornings at 10:15 a.m., music-and-movement story time on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m., and family activities every Wednesday during the summer. The library's new "reading buddies" program pairs children with teen volunteers in 20-minute sessions every Tuesday from 1 to 3 p.m.
For teens, Noel said the library will host a teen night on July 3 with puzzles and board games and a "pocket worlds" craft on July 10 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. For adults, the Well-Read Book Club is focused on mental-health topics; the next meeting is July 11, when members will discuss Mindset by Carol S. Dweck. The library's after-hours putt-putt event is scheduled for Saturday, July 12, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.; registration is required.
"Stop by the library, and you can earn prizes for reading over the summer," Noel said. For more details and weekly listings, patrons were directed to the library or the city website.
