The committee voted to let the 2026 second regular session begin Jan. 14, 2026 by operation of statute, rejecting an earlier Jan. 7 start after debate about holidays, staff capacity and construction timing.

Director Michael DeCicco of the Office of Legislative Legal Services informed the committee that, by operation of statute and the committee's rules, the second regular session of the 75th General Assembly would default to Jan. 14, 2026 unless members adopt a joint resolution to pick a different date.
