Brookhaven council approves multiple ordinances, millage rates and infrastructure resolutions

Brookhaven — At its June 17 meeting the Brookhaven City Council approved a series of ordinances and resolutions covering budget adjustments, infrastructure work and tax and assessment rates.
The council approved Ordinance ID 7,275 to amend the confiscated assets fund to appropriate $197,236 for the purchase of SWAT equipment and vehicle upfitting; staff described the purchase as a shared-cost item with neighboring municipalities. Council member Mr. Ringer moved the ordinance; it passed after a recorded 'aye' vote.
The council approved Ordinance ID 7,274 to transfer $120,000 from a non-departmental expense line to the legal department for outside legal services, and Ordinance ID 7,267 to appropriate $196,000 as a change order for Murphy Candler Park in the Capital Improvement Program.
Council adopted a resolution establishing a policy and petition process for city-managed street improvements on privately owned roads; under the policy neighborhoods may request the city to organize and manage construction while residents bear 100% of costs and retain ownership and maintenance via the HOA after completion.
The council authorized Resolution 7,278 to begin eminent domain proceedings to acquire property at 4047 Ashford Dunwoody Road as part of a multiuse path and approved a memorandum of understanding to share a North Metro SWAT equipment vehicle among Brookhaven, Dunwoody, Chamblee and Doraville.
Finance staff presented and the council approved the general millage rate memorialized at 2.74 for 2025; the council also set the bond millage at 0.47, the Special Service District millage at 4 mills, the Special Tax District millage at 12 mills, and memorialized a $142 stormwater assessment rate for 2025. The council also approved a unified streetlight district rate of $39.69 and accepted Atlanta Regional Commission funds to support Peachy Creek Greenway Phase 2 and an Ashford Dunwoody/Windsor Parkway roundabout project.
Public Works reported a $140,000 task order to A and S Paving for stormwater rehabilitation on Burkford Circle to repair a failed 36-inch corrugated metal pipe and address sinkhole formation near addresses 4332–4342 Burkford Circle; the council approved the task order.
What’s next: Staff were authorized to proceed with contract amendments, budget adjustments and agreements as directed for the projects and grants; the council recorded approvals for each ordinance and resolution during the meeting.
