City staff held a required public hearing on a charter amendment to align candidate qualifying with the Georgia Municipal Election Code and approved a separate Chapter 42 election code amendment to set qualifying dates and update county duties; the charter amendment will return for a final hearing July 21.

The Kennesaw City Council held the first required public hearing July 7 on a proposed charter amendment to align the city’s candidate qualification period with the Georgia Municipal Election Code. Staff said the change would set a minimum three-day qualifying period starting no earlier than 8:30 a.m. on the third Monday in August; the item was advertised and a second and final public hearing is scheduled for July 21.
