The Utah County Board of Commissioners voted to refer a request to review the R R 5 rural residential zone to the Planning Commission for consideration in a work session.
Commissioner (agenda sponsor) said the referral would allow citizens and staff to examine whether the R R 5 zone should be maintained, amended or abolished. Bryce Armstrong of Community Development described the zone’s origins in the late 1970s and said recent questions have arisen about limits on accessory structure sizes, barns and livestock counts. He recommended placing the matter on a Planning Commission work session agenda to explore options.
Glenn Roberts, a resident living in the RR‑5 zone, told commissioners that many properties “already violate the zone” and asked for a comprehensive review to make the rules match existing conditions. The commission voted to refer the item and requested the Planning Commission consider it in their next meeting cycle.
