OCFA reports Sept. incident totals, structure fire and mutual-aid deployments to council

The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) briefed the Stanton City Council on Sept. activity and recent operations, reporting a total of 332 incidents in the city during September.

The OCFA representative told the council that of the 332 incidents, 24 were fire-related, 287 were emergency medical services calls and 21 were hazardous-condition or miscellaneous service calls. The chief described a Sept. 9 structure fire at 8950 Pacific Avenue, in which Engine 46 led a commercial-structure response. "We dispatched what's known as a commercial structure response, which had over 20 firefighters respond to the incident," the chief said, noting the fire was confined to a single, vacant unit with estimated damage of about $100,000 and no reported civilian or firefighter injuries.

The chief also updated the council on mutual-aid deployments: OCFA activated a USAR task force and sent personnel for hurricane response; additional members were being deployed to bolster those efforts. He provided an update on firefighters injured during an airport fire/vehicle incident: most have been released from hospital care and are recovering, with one member remaining hospitalized and others in rehab.

The chief invited residents to the Fire Station 46 open house for Fire Prevention Week and encouraged the public to follow OCFA social channels for safety information.
