Oklahoma CareerTech board grants full postsecondary accreditation to five technology centers

The Oklahoma State Board of Career and Technology Education voted April 2 to grant full postsecondary accreditation to five technology centers after the agency's accreditation team reported the results of recent reviews.
Accreditation manager Joey Venec told the board examiners conducted hybrid reviews at each center, interviewed students, staff and community stakeholders, and observed program areas. Venec recommended full accreditation for Northwest Technology Center (Alba and Fairview), Central Technology Center (including the Sapulpa campus), Wes Watkins Technology Center, Indian Capital Technology Center (Muskogee and branch campuses) and Tri County Technology Center (Bartlesville and branch sites).
Venec said examiners found no areas of noncompliance at Northwest, Central and Wes Watkins. Indian Capital and Tri County each had a single area of noncompliance that their districts addressed with corrective action plans that the accreditation team judged sufficient to remedy the issues. "We recommend that the board grant full accreditation status," Venec told the board.
Superintendents from the reviewed districts thanked agency staff for the depth of the reviews and highlighted business-education partnerships as a strength of CareerTech. At Indian Capital, district leadership described communication lapses tied to staff absences during the review period and said those issues are already fixed.
Board members moved and seconded each accreditation recommendation; the chair called roll for each vote and recorded unanimous approval. The accreditation process gives centers 90 days, when applicable, to submit action plans addressing identified opportunities for improvement, and agency staff will monitor implementation and provide technical assistance.
Andrew Byer, Allan Noss and Sandra McKnight, members of the accreditation team, were introduced to the board after the votes. The board did not take other action on accreditation items at the meeting.
What happens next: Accredited centers will proceed with required action plans where noted and continue routine oversight by agency accreditation staff.
