District reports growth in construction and aviation programs; sets rules for short-term distance learning

"We have 91 students who are enrolled in that class right now," the teaching-and-learning lead said of the construction class, which leaders said may require additional space and staff if current students re-enroll and new students sign up for next year.
Staff also said the aviation class has doubled its enrollment in three years and that instructor Ashley Hightower presented the program at a national summit in Atlanta.
On unplanned distance learning for elementary schools, the district said it will use paper-and-pencil packets for forecasted one- to two-day events. "If it's 3 or more days forecasted, then we're gonna send home the Chromebooks," a staff speaker said, explaining the district wants teachers to be able to run live Google Meets during longer outages.
Officials said they will share the policy with families after the break and prepare for potential weather-related events under the clarified approach. No changes to secondary distance-learning rules were detailed at the meeting.
