Dr. Leslie Barnett submitted a resignation letter to the Catawba County Board of Education effective Aug. 25, 2025, saying that personal health challenges mean she can no longer meet the demands of the role.
In the letter read at the meeting, Barnett wrote that after nearly eight years on the board and 42 years of service with Catawba County Schools she was ‘‘no longer able to fulfill my responsibilities with the level of energy and focus our students, staff, and families have come to expect and deserve.’’ The letter closed with thanks for the opportunity to serve.
Chairman Sedemeyer and other board members acknowledged Barnett’s long tenure and asked for a moment of silence for her and her family. The chair read the letter into the record and said the board appreciates her service.
The resignation was entered into the meeting record; no formal replacement process or timetable was announced at the meeting.
