Passaic council adopts disabled-parking ordinance and hears parking-deck budget update

Passaic City Council on Aug. 5 adopted Ordinance 24-91-25, which amends the city's restricted parking designation for disabled persons (by New Jersey license-plate number). The council opened the hearing, received no public comment on the item, and approved the ordinance by roll call.
Council members then discussed capital projects including the downtown parking deck. City staff reported the final contract and change orders brought the total project cost to $13,662,008.74, slightly under the $14,000,000 appropriation. Staff said surplus funds were used to add electric-charging stations, security cameras and other items not in the original contract; a grand opening was anticipated the following week.
Council also advanced routine communications and resolutions and accepted a successful bidder for a restaurant space in the new garage complex. On standard business, the council approved routine bills and ordinances introduced for first reading before adjourning.
The new parking deck and added services (charging stations, security features) were presented as part of the city's push to expand parking and move toward more sustainable infrastructure. City staff and council asked that members be given sufficient notice to participate in a grand-opening event.
