Director of Schools Dr. Jeff Elliott presented a summary report and a detailed plan that centers on four core priorities: student academic success; supporting students and families; highly effective employees; and a clear culture of communication. Board members reviewed final edits and two highlighted modifications since the last meeting: an action item to install district logo signage on school exteriors (estimated at approximately $30,000 with a target completion in 2026) and a performance target to reduce chronic absenteeism by about 1.5 percentage points per year to bring the district below the state average and to approximately 17% by 2029–2030.
Board members asked for a closing report on the prior strategic plan’s outcomes so the board could understand baseline performance and progress. Dr. Elliott said staff will assemble previous-plan results and incorporate them into the rollout. The board set an implementation timeline that ties the strategic plan to local education agency (LEA) planning and to TISA funding plans, with kick-off activities expected at the start of the school year in August.
The board voted by roll call with all present members in favor. Next steps include communicating the plan to staff and the public, coordinating subcommittee work, and beginning action-step implementation this summer and fall.
