The Augusta City Council on Sept. 15 approved a professional services agreement with JEO Consulting Group Inc. to perform design services for the CCLIP US-54 mill-and-overlay project.
Staff described the grant award from KDOT and clarified that design is typically a nonparticipating cost; the award is part of KDOT's program with a $400,000 cap (staff corrected an earlier verbal reference to a $1,000,000 program). The city will likely group construction work into a temporary note issuance and include this grant in a broader streets package. Staff said the design contract is not funded by the awarded construction grant and recommended moving forward with engineering to have the project ready for bidding in the 2027 construction season. Council authorized the city manager, Josh Shaw, to sign the agreement with a not-to-exceed amount of $77,000.
Council member S4 moved to approve the professional services agreement with JEO Consulting Group for completion of the project at an amount not to exceed $77,000; motion seconded and carried by voice vote.
The contract advances design work so the city can prepare construction documents and coordinate potential sidewalk and related projects for leveraging additional funding.
