The Apache Junction Unified School District Governing Board adopted its May 27 agenda and approved prior meeting minutes before hearing a superintendent update and a student-program presentation.
Superintendent Dr. Papalardo told the board that “May is a very, very busy month at schools,” listing graduations, promotions and arts performances across the district. He introduced the district’s new high school athletic director, Traston Yates, and welcomed him to the staff.
Jeff Struble, who identified himself as part of the Rhino Recreations team that runs the Building America Club, described the program’s in-school curriculum and civic project. Struble said the program has run “probably more on 10 years” in the district and that students organized a lemonade stand that raised $506.04. He said the students chose to donate the proceeds to the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation and praised district staff—singling out Mrs. Smith—for supporting the students’ work: “The Rhino Recreation Center is where kids are in charge,” Struble said.
Votes at a glance The board voted 5–0 to adopt the meeting agenda. The board also voted 5–0 to approve the April 22 regular meeting minutes and the May 13 work session and special meeting minutes.
