The Sumner School District Board of Directors on Sept. 16 adopted Resolution No. 01/25-26 approving educational specifications for a new Tehaleh Middle School.
The vote followed a presentation by Benjamin Fields, principal at McGranahan PBK, who said the educational-specification process involved district staff, teachers, parents and the community and produced a plan for an approximately 130,000-square-foot middle school. Fields said the team worked from March through May to develop space needs and room data sheets and that schematic design is now underway after predesign work.
District staff framed the action as the next step following voter approval of a recent facilities bond. The resolution the board adopted formalizes the district’s instructional and spatial requirements for the Tehaleh project so architects can proceed with schematic design.
Board members who asked questions or commented praised the community engagement and the level of detail in the educational specifications. There was no recorded amendment to the resolution; the motion was moved and seconded and the board approved the resolution by voice vote.
Next steps: the project team will continue schematic design and share updates with the board as designs and timelines develop. The board scheduled its next regular meeting for Oct. 21, 2025.
