The City Council unanimously approved an amendment to Chapter 70 of the city’s land‑development regulations that clarifies how the city calculates the privilege fee charged to adjacent property owners who seek abandonment of a right‑of‑way.
Planning staff told the council the change allows, as an option, a Member Appraisal Institute (MAI) appraisal when property‑appraiser values lag market conditions. Jason Jeffries said the planning staff and the Planning & Zoning Board recommended the update to provide a fairer, objective standard and asked that the MAI acronym be defined in the ordinance text.
Council members emphasized the goal of protecting the public interest and ensuring fair market value for city‑owned property. The ordinance passed on a 5–0 roll call.
