Council approves quitclaim deed to clear title for two South Ashley Street properties

City Attorney Tim Tanner said an attorney representing a potential purchaser discovered a narrow strip of property tied to an abandoned railroad bed in the title search. Tanner said the city would quitclaim any interest it might have in that strip to the current owners to enable a pending sale; he described the strip as roughly 8 feet wide and located between a standing building and a small corner parking lot.
A councilmember moved to approve the quitclaim deed, the motion was seconded, and council approved it by show of hands.
Tanner said the buildings on the parcel were damaged during a storm and that a buyer is interested in the area once title issues are cleared.
