At its April 22 meeting, the Hood County Commissioners Court issued several ceremonial proclamations and approved routine business actions.
Proclamations: The court proclaimed May 4, 2025, as International Firefighters' Day and announced a Friends of Memorial Lane ceremony May 3 at Jim Burke's Firefighter Memorial Park. It proclaimed May 2025 as National Police Week with a local ceremony on May 10, May 2025 as Mental Health Awareness Month with May 8 designated as Children's Mental Health Awareness Day, and April 30 as National Therapy Animal Day, recognizing Pet Partners and local therapy-animal teams.
Grants and equipment: County staff presented two resolutions required for the Fiscal Year 2025 PSO grant process for rifle-resistant armor and a quadruped robot; the court approved signing the resolutions so the county may pursue those grants.
Small-business display: Stacy Martin, coordinating with Congressman Roger Williams' office, asked the court to pay one-third of a canvas print's cost (shared with the city and chamber) and framing/shipping to display Granbury's artwork in the Small Business Administration boardroom in Washington, D.C.; court approved an expenditure not to exceed $1,500.
Event permits: The court also authorized the county judge to sign temporary event applications for the City of Granbury's Fourth of July event (July 3–6) and for the Memorial Day celebration (May 23–26) for use of the historic courthouse parking lot.
Votes: All listed proclamations, PSO grant resolutions and the SBA canvas payment were approved without recorded opposition at the April 22 meeting.
What happens next: Proclamations are ceremonial. PSO grant resolutions enable staff to submit applications; the SBA display will be coordinated with the city and chamber if funding and logistics proceed.
