The Carmel Central School District Board of Education approved several administrative and contract items on July 1, including personnel designations, bonding coverage and an engineering survey for two school sites.
The board appointed Lauren Santa Barbara (assistant superintendent for instruction) and Elizabeth Kennedy (assistant superintendent for pupil services) as the district's Title IX coordinators, designating the interim superintendent and the superintendent as appeals decision makers. Trustees were told that coordinator assignments will be revisited when current staff transitions occur.
A blanket bonding resolution passed that bonds board members and district employees under a $100,000 faithful performance policy and specifies that the district treasurer and deputy treasurer are bonded in the amount of $1,000,000.
On the capital side, the board approved hiring La Bella Associates to perform a boundary and topographical survey at George Fisher Middle School and Carmel High School for a total cost of $72,950. Trustees said county records were unavailable or out of date and that the district needs accurate boundary and topo information before any athletic field upgrades or capital work.
The board also approved a resolution appointing Ken Silver, assistant superintendent for operations, human resources and business, to serve as acting superintendent when the interim superintendent or superintendent is absent; the resolution includes indemnification language and was approved by vote.
Trustees said these administrative steps prepare the district for the upcoming year and for potential capital planning; staff will forward official documentation and follow up with timing details where appropriate.
