Carmel Central Board re-elects Melissa Orser president; John Curzio named vice president, oaths administered

The Carmel Central School District Board of Education on July 1 elected Trustee Melissa Orser president and Trustee John Curzio vice president for the 2526 school year and administered oaths to newly elected officials and ex officio student members.

Vice President John Curzio nominated Orser for a second term as board president, saying he "proudly nominate[d] trustee Melissa Orser"; the nomination was seconded and carried in a roll-call vote that the president declared successful. Trustees then nominated and elected John Curzio as vice president by roll call. The board immediately administered the oaths of office together for both officers.

The swearing-in portion of the meeting also included an oath for Trustee Michael Torpey, the interim superintendent and the board's ex officio student trustees. President Orser welcomed the newly sworn trustees and thanked the student representatives for their participation.

Board members said the reorganizational votes were routine and formally set leadership for the year. The board will use the established leadership roles to conduct committee appointments, liaison assignments and other organizational business scheduled for the coming school year.

The board adjourned the reorganization portion of the meeting and resumed its regular agenda later the same evening. The district clerk recorded the roll-call votes and the formal oath documents will be filed with district records as required by board practice and state law.
