Moore County approves final courthouse change order, adjusts contract by $406,280

Rich Smith, Moore County capital projects manager, told the Board on Aug. 19 that the new courthouse construction and renovation is complete and county possession has begun. Smith presented a settlement agreement among the county, New Atlantic Contracting and Moseley Architects and requested approval of change order #15, which increases the contract by $406,280 and sets the final contract sum at $43,501,065.
Smith said certificates of occupancy are issued, the property manager is coordinating furniture installation and the DA’s filing cabinets are scheduled to move in next week. He said occupation of the building is expected around October. The county reported the additional amount is within the capital project ordinance (fund 432). The board approved the settlement and change order and authorized the chairman to sign upon county attorney review.
Commissioners thanked staff and the project team for completing the work; one commissioner asked staff to report remaining balances in the capital project ordinance account.
