Trustee objects to park contract overage; board approves consent item 11h 5–1

A consent‑agenda item (11h) that included a contract adjustment tied to a park project drew a single‑trustee opposition during the Arlington ISD board meeting on Nov. 6.

Trustee Mike spoke at length opposing the inclusion of a $1,400,000 COVID‑inflation overage within the contract, arguing the district faces deficit pressures, that the district and the city should prioritize other needs, and that the overage does not advance student achievement. "I oppose the inclusion of this $1,400,000. I think it's a waste of taxpayer dollars," he said.

Superintendent Smith responded that administration had reviewed the 2019 contract documents and brought the item forward because they believed honoring commitments made in that contract was appropriate. Trustees Wilbanks and Fowler moved and seconded approval of item 11h; the board approved the consent agenda item 11h with five trustees in favor and one opposed.
