Commissioners approve $725,000 mediation contract extensions

PR Casey of the Franklin County Auditor’s Office said the extensions cover named mediators and firms, including Walter Rexes, James Hutchins, A New Beginning Mediation Services LLC and Dispute Resolution Inc., and that the mediation program resolves valuation disputes outside the board of revision, shortening timelines for taxpayers.
Casey noted the program’s strong performance, saying that “of all cases referred to mediation, over 98 percent of the cases have reported being satisfied with the process.” Commissioner Grady moved the resolution and the board adopted it unanimously.
The authorization covers a one-year term and keeps the county’s mediation option in place to reduce backlog and speed appeals. The Auditor’s Office requested commissioners allow the contracts to proceed and said it stands ready to answer questions about participating mediators and program administration.
