Campbell County staff asked the Board of Supervisors to authorize participation in the national settlement with the Sackler family and to add the resulting funds to the county’s existing opioid abatement authority.
Staff described the settlement as an additional tranche of funds similar to earlier opioid settlements. When asked whether the new funds carry the same spending restrictions as prior awards, staff replied: "Exact same parameters. It all comes through the state general agreement," noting the county adopted a state general MOU in 2021 for how funds are administered.
Board action: Supervisor (speaker 7) moved that the board approve the settlement documents and grant the county attorney authority to execute the necessary settlement documents on behalf of the county; the motion passed with no recorded opposition.
Why it matters: The additional funds enlarge the county’s pool of resources to address opioid treatment, mitigation and related programs. Staff emphasized the funds will be administered through the statewide authority and executed under the same restrictions and reporting structure as prior opioid settlement funds.
Next steps: County staff will complete required documentation and process the funds under the county’s existing opioid‑abatement framework and reporting requirements.
