Augusta County board extends emergency operations plan through Jan. 31, 2026

Augusta County Administrator Tim Fitzgerald told the Board of Supervisors the county's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) had expired and that the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission — which coordinates the regional update — had staffing turnover that delayed completion. Fitzgerald presented a resolution to extend the county's existing EOP through Jan. 31, 2026 and said the regional update will be ready for adoption in January 2026.
A supervisor moved to approve the extension and a second followed. The board recorded a unanimous vote (7–0) to extend the EOP to Jan. 31, 2026. Fitzgerald said the extension had been discussed with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, which accepted the approach.
The extension is a temporary measure while the regional plan is updated; staff said the Central Shenandoah Planning District Commission will return the completed regional plan for adoption in January 2026.
