"I'm Akasha Jordan, vice president," one student introduced during the presentation.
Board member Missus Hagedorn reported that Monroe has the lowest chronic‑absenteeism percentage among Butler County districts (12% this year) and set a new goal of 9% for next year, praising staff and administration for the improvement. She also recognized two staff members who received county awards.
District leaders presented the MLS1 plan (updated every three years) that sets three central goals: building collaborative leadership structures aligned to the MTSS framework, using early‑warning systems to support on‑track graduation, and targeting supports and coaching for inexperienced teachers. The presenters noted that student‑success funds this year include a little over $400,000 for counseling, success‑liaison roles and a mental‑health coordinator and that 50% of those funds must be used for mental‑health services.
Superintendent Buskirk gave a facilities update: the gym infill is "on schedule" and expected to be ready for the second semester, and the high‑school design phase continues with department meetings and upcoming outreach to city council. The board also approved quotes and contracts for several facility and operational items: bus‑lot drainage work to protect the garage, replacement of a main‑campus chiller fan motor, an adjusted MOU for certain College Credit Plus science lab hours and a three‑year communications contract to replace copper lines and reduce telecommunications expenses.
The board took these operational actions by motion and roll‑call vote, with trustees recording unanimous "Aye" votes.
Next steps: Principals and Missus Long will present a more detailed report on the state report card at the October meeting; staff will schedule follow‑ups on modulars, the second construction‑entrance driveway and the high‑school design meetings.
