McDaniel College asks Carroll County to add six campus event locations to liquor license

Eric Simon, vice president and chief financial officer at McDaniel College, told the Carroll County Board of License the college is asking the board to add six additional campus event locations to its existing license to reflect spaces departments use for events throughout the year. Chief Eric Emler, director of campus safety, was present to confirm campus security will oversee events where alcohol is served.
Simon listed the currently covered spaces — the Auburn Suite at the football stadium, Bridal Lounge attached to McDaniel Hall, the Gilles Center, the Ross Center and Alumni Hall — and said the six new locations correspond to numbered entries on the college campus map. He described Rembert House as a small meeting space near the golf-course entrance, Carroll Hall as an administrative building with a first-floor reception area used for gatherings, and Petersen Hall as an academic building where only the third-floor art gallery is proposed for coverage.
The college said alcohol is stored centrally in Engler Hall and served by a single third-party caterer, identified in testimony as ABI Food Services. Simon told the board the college does not authorize departments or faculty to access the storage space; only the caterer and campus safety have entry to the storage area. Simon also confirmed the college will restrict alcohol service to event spaces and will not license academic classrooms.
Board members asked the college to supply a hard-copy campus map showing the numbered locations and to provide copies of alcohol-awareness/TAM certificates for the caterer’s employees as part of the application package. The board’s inspector asked that the named licensee on the campus application be certified; Simon identified Janelle Humble as the person listed on the existing license. The college agreed to the document requests and to limit service to the event spaces discussed.
No formal roll-call vote on the McDaniel request was recorded in the transcript. The board closed the college’s presentation after the college agreed to provide the requested map and training documentation, and said staff would note compliance conditions if the board took formal action later.
