Committee approves amended recommendation to accept Mission Bay South parks P22 and P19 and delegate port acceptance

The Land Use and Transportation Committee on July 8 voted to amend and forward an ordinance to accept grant deeds for two Mission Bay South parks (P22 and P19), to delegate acceptance and maintenance responsibilities to the Port Commission for up to three years, and to delegate certain public-works acceptance authorities for some infrastructure.
Scott Hennessy of San Francisco Public Works said P22 (Mission Bay Front Park) lies east of Chase Center and is “close to 5.4 acres.” He reported that the site was about “95% completed” as of June and that staff sought delegation to the Port Commission and to the Public Works director to accelerate acceptance and closeout of contracts.
Chair Mirna Melgar described visiting the new park and praised its immediate community value. The chair moved to amend the ordinance and forward it to the full Board with a positive recommendation; Vice Chair Dean Preston and President Aaron Peskin voted aye and the motion passed.
The committee’s action authorizes staff and the Port Commission to complete technical acceptance tasks and prepares the matter for Board action on July 16, 2024.
