Committee advances rezoning to allow vehicle storage at 135 Kisling; forwards original file to full board

The Land Use and Transportation Committee on July 8 moved to advance an ordinance that would conditionally permit vehicle storage lots in specified mixed-use districts and rezone 135 Kisling from residential enclave to residential enclave mixed.
John Kevlin, representing Royal Motors, told the committee the rezoning is “necessary to complete their renovation of their existing auto repair operation at Twelfth And Howard Streets, almost the entirety of the block,” and said the change would allow the business to continue use of nearby lots and an unused warehouse on Kisling Street while a downtown garage lease ends in August.
President Aaron Peskin moved to duplicate the file and continue the duplicate to the call of the chair; Chair Mirna Melgar moved to send the original file to the full Board with a positive recommendation as a committee report. Vice Chair Dean Preston, President Peskin and Chair Melgar voted aye and the motions passed.
The committee’s action preserves the original file for the July 16 Board agenda while allowing the duplicated file to be continued while amendments are finalized.
