Committee adds Department of Technology to BLA audit plan

Supervisor Aaron Peskin presented a motion to add the Department of Technology (DT) to the Budget and Legislative Analyst—s (BLA) audit plan for FY2016‑17. The motion cited concerns about staffing, information security, strategic planning, project management and rising costs in light of recent CIO turnover. "The department budget increased $18,000,000 this fiscal year from $96,000,000 to $114,000,000," the chair said when framing the request.
Severn Campbell of the BLA told the committee the office is finishing an audit of the Real Estate Department and has capacity to begin the DT audit immediately; the BLA's target is to deliver the product before the FY2017‑18 budget process.
There was no public testimony on this item; the committee forwarded the item to the full Board with recommendation without objection.
